Site haul road constructed using recycled stone

P J Murphy responded to an enquiry from a Tier 1 contractor for infrastructure works including site clearance and the construction of 4.5km of site haul road to facilitate a major development. The conforming tender included the import of 35,000 tonnes of stone.

An alternative, using a recycled stone, was accepted generating a saving of over £200,000.
Using a fleet of Euro 6 Volvo 8 wheeled tippers we imported the stone in three months keeping comfortably ahead of the programme. Excavators, bulldozers, and dump trucks were provided from the P J Murphy fleet and maintained by our in-house engineering team.

The project was carried out under an NEC4 contract to SHW standards and supervised by independent consulting engineers.

The completed haul road has proved its worth in standing up to traffic during the winter’s heavy rain and freezing temperatures.

The works were completed ahead of programme and, due to further value engineering savings, below budget.
